Outwardly, this season’s New York Fashion Week shows followed a familiar playbook. The official schedule ran for six days (albeit with fewer events) and it played the hits: Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors, Tory Burch. All of this brought a calm to a week that can sometimes be anything but. That calm extended to the streets outside shows, which drew smaller crowds with a relaxed energy. Some seasons have so many shows or presentations that it’s hard to stop and breathe.

NEW YORK (AP) — Shimmer and glimmer with a dash of the majestic was on display Monday as Tory Burch showed her 2024 Fall Winter Collection at New York Fashion week. Inspired by ordinary objects like a lampshade or well-worn coat, Burch set out to redefine the form of her designs with this collection. “I started with the concept of how to make the everyday sublime,” Burch told the Associated Press at a post-show interview. While many of the designs took Burch out of her comfort zone, the one that stood out was the hooded sweater with orange lampshade skirt. Burch says the vibrancy of color juxtaposed with the “beautiful neutral tones” in the collection’s palette.

Fast-fashion retailers like Zara, Shein and H&M are using resale platforms to reduce their carbon footprints, but the programs are projected to do little to reduce emissions, a new study released Tuesday found. The study analyzed five brand archetypes, spanning fast fashion to premium apparel, and how reselling previously owned items could affect their overall carbon emissions between 2023 and 2040. It found that fast-fashion retailers, which create about 11.5 kilograms (25.3 pounds) of carbon dioxide for every item they make, will only reduce their emissions by 0.7% with resale programs. Outdoor brands, like Patagonia and the North Face, create about 12.5 kilograms of CO2 per item and could reduce emissions by 15.8%, according to the study. Ruben said it takes a lot of work for fast-fashion retailers to implement resale programs, but "you're not getting a lot of juice for the squeeze."

A change to the board of directors at a top Wall Street bank has raised questions about what it means for the CEO. LAST SEPTEMBER Adi Sigler, 28, wore track pants to a business meeting for the first time. Ms. Sigler felt uneasy—were her pants too laid-back for work? Her office wardrobe now includes a pile of track pants, which she often pairs with Isabel Marant tops and a black Lady Dior bag. Track pants, a gym staple roughly defined as loose athletic pants, have new legs thanks to a one-two punch of runway dominance at labels like Gucci and Max Mara and the rise of postpandemic “bleisure” (a sloshy portmanteau for “business leisure”) that embraces soft fabrics and slouchy silhouettes. Track pants sate the appetite for easy clothes that are still style-forward.

The source of the tension, whether real or perceived, was Rosenblum's forthcoming debut novel, "Bad Summer People." But it has already sent the tiny town, located off the coast of Long Island, New York, into a tizzy. But everyone DVR'd, everyone watched it, and everyone relished that their little summer town was somehow elevated to prominence." Rosenblum simply took events that punctuated the summer, like the town-wide Bay picnic and the summer tennis tournament, and used them as a backdrop for her fictional drama. "You'll see him on the tennis court, and you'll see her around town, and nothing's going to change," they said.
